Completing the stages to become a knight was a rigorous process, because you need to have fit knights for battle. Battle was very important; to win the battles you needed knights. Any boy picked from the street, would not make a good knight! The process they are put through prepares them for the war. These reasons make it very important.
Why do you think completing the stages to become a knight was such along and rigorous process?
Facts:
- A knight had to be a very wealthy person- The War Horse, armor, shields, and weapons
- Becoming a knight was part of the feudal agreement
- Knighthood training began in early childhood- this is when basic education and good manners and rules of etiquette were taught (at home)
- At the age of 7, boys were sent to the castles and homes of wealthy lords or relatives to commence on their training
- Around the age 7-14 the boys were given the role of a Medieval Page
- From the age 14-21 "apprentice knights' were referred to as Squires
- Training focused on weapon practice- horsemanship, the two-handed sword, battle axe, mace, dagger, and lance
- The different types and styles of training depended on the age and strength of the knight
